Woodside Woodland Walks

Our Woodland Walk is set within the walls of an ancient monument, in the heart of the beautiful Newball Woods.

Archaeologists can’t decide whether the monument used to be a fort or a hunting lodge, as it’s former identity has faded through the mists of time...

Local people believe it may have been a cattle stockade to protect valuable cattle from marauding bears and wolves. What will you think...

Watch out for Warren on your Woodland Walk, he has a habit of popping out to surprise you....

No matter how small or tall, or how young and not so young you are, Newball Wood has fascinating things to touch, smell and see at every level ...

Did you know there are plants growing in the wood that can cure a headache?

There are also poisonous plants that can KILL you so DO NOT EAT ANYTHING in the woods unless your expert guide tells you that it is OK...

Our Woodland Walks are very relaxing... If you live in a town or city, you will hear sounds you’ve never heard before, see birds and insects you’ve never seen before and smell things that...

...well, some things smell really nice, but quite frankly other things smell so stinky and bad you’ll be holding your nose!

Our secret Bird Hide is just incredible. Sponsored by Haiths Bird Seed, you can hide away and wait and watch...

Eventually, when they think you’re not looking, some amazing birds will arrive! It’s a fantastic photo opportunity, so don’t forget to bring your camera...

A Woodland Walk in Newball Wood

Our beautiful Woodland Walk is so peaceful and idyllic... You’ll meander through an area of natural regeneration within Newball Wood, which is a site of Special Scientific Interest. It is also one of the Forestry Commission’s lime woods, and a National Nature Reserve.

Guided by a local expert, you’ll be entranced by local flora and fauna, wet and dry areas, bat boxes, bird boxes and feeding stations, all of which combine to make your Woodland Walk a magical and unforgettable experience...

Come to Woodside and join all the fun TODAY!
